Victorian Government support for carers

More than 140,000 primary carers in Victoria play a critical role supporting others in the community, including people with a disability or mental illness, children in foster care, and frail older people.

Carers in Victoria can now apply for a Carer Card.

The Victorian Carer Card recognises the valuable unpaid work of carers in our community. It provides discounts at thousands of participating businesses. It also provides half price public transport, free weekend travel in any two consecutive zones, free public transport during Carers Week and free travel vouchers (opt-in required).

The Carer Card is available to primary carers of a person with a disability, severe medical condition or mental illness, or someone who is frail aged. Foster, kinship and respite carers are also eligible.

How to apply:

To find out more about Carer Card and apply for free online, visit www.carercard.vic.gov.au, call 1800 901 958 or email carercard@dffh.vic.gov.au to have an application form sent to you.

When you receive your Carer Card for the first time, you will also receive a Carer myki. If you already have a Carer Card you can use it to obtain a Carer myki at staffed stations.
