June is Pride Month! This is an opportunity to acknowledge the intersectional identities of the LGBTIQA+ community to ensure that everyone, feels safe and welcome to express themselves.
Why do we acknowledge Pride Month?
LGBTIQA+ inclusion is everyone’s business! As a Rainbow Tick accredited provider, we celebrate and support gender and sexually diverse, intersex communities every day. Everybody has a responsibility to ensure people feel safe, supported and welcome in the community and workplace.
Key updates
Here are some key actions we've been taking to ‘bake in’ LGBTIQA+ inclusion:
- In the lead up to IDAHOBIT Day, our Diversity & Inclusion Project Officer, Tommy attended the second LGBTIQA+ Symposium. Tommy was a panel member and discussed the development and implementation of an LGBTIQA+ Action Plan, to support organisations with embedding LGBTIQA+ inclusion across practices, policies and procedures. The event looks to initiatives that promotes equitable and safe healthcare and workplace environments for LGBTIQA+ identifying individuals, significant others and their families.
- QHealth’s ‘NeuroQueer’ group, has been granted a funding extension by North West Melbourne Primary Health Network, to continue providing a high quality of support to neurodivergent individuals, who identify as LGBTIQA+. The group provides no-cost educational, skill-building and creative workshops which are facilitated by professionals who also identify as neurodivergent. If you know someone who would be interested in the group, please let them know to reach out to us via email at qhealth@holstephealth.org.au.
